The late King Hussein had a great passion for this hobby.
Through his generosity, club station JY6ZZ was built in
Amman many years ago. Located at the Sports Center, the Royal
Jordanian Radio Amateur Society meets weekly. Operating
achievement awards such as the Arabian Knights Award, The
Silver Award, and The Coral Award were conceived and many
have received these beautiful certificates, signed by His Majesty
JY1 himself. Unfortunately over the last few years, active
members JY5IM (not shown), JY4MB, & JY3ZH
have become Silent Keys.
Special callsign prefix used by RJRAS members in 1993 for the
celebration of JY1's 40th year of assumption of constitutional
powers. This is front of the QSL, the operator would fill in
their own suffix letters.

Since the untimely and unfortunate death of HM King
Hussein in February 1999, His Majesty King Abdullah has
been the leader of Jordan. All reports indicate that he is
following in his father's footsteps in both politics and accessibility,
and he seems to be very down to earth, just as his father was.
Now, if he would only become interested in becoming a radio
amateur himself. Hmmm...JY1A (JY1Abdullah). Wouldn't that
create some enthusiasm again on the bands?! Your Majesty
(or work staff), if you ever read this, please feel free to
contact me if you have any interest in getting on the air! :-)
